Eat Local Food. I started to go political with this one. After some thought, I decided I had better not, and deleted three paragraphs! It’s just that sometimes, well, this gets a little personal for me. It’s so easy to go into my local grocery or Walmart and buy whatever I need. I struggle with this. I know there is little “local” to be found in Walmart.

We’ve all read something about the higher nutritional profiles of pastured meats. But then we look at the price tag and we hesitate. It’s expensive. Trust me, I suffered the same hesitation! As you’ll see, the cost of pastured meats really is the “true” cost to produce quality pastured meats. For the sake of keeping this somewhat short – I’ll examine only beef today!

If you google it, you will find a range of answers. For some it is simply food that is safe to eat! Just because something is SAFE to eat (as in it will not result in your immediate death), doesn’t mean you should, right The above answer is not good enough for me. According to Merriam Webster, Real and Food have the following definitions: Real: not artificial, fraudulent, or illusory; genuine; being precisely what the name implies Food: nutriment in solid form; something that nourishes, sustains, or supplies It seems obvious to me, Real Food should not require a label or fancy packaging to tell you what is in it.

As a small business owner, I’ve come to rely heavily on other local businesses. Yes, I still shop at Walmart and Lowes, but I don’t have relationships with those stores. Customer service is often lacking, or even nonexistent (think Walmart…). And when you buy online? You never meet the folks you’re buying from. There is no face to remember.
